just that, where this game of skill will challenge little ones to
maintain a steady hand over a robotic corkscrew course. All they

I'm taking the Challenge
The Free Motion Challenge that is. Joanne at Threadhead and her
buddy Wendy have invited you and I to do a free-motion challenge.
There are things that I'd like to learn and practice with my free
motion, so I'm taking the plunge and signing up for the challenge.I
plan to start on Monday. I'm digging out my Dianne Gaudynski book,
reviewing it during commercials on TV. I'm making a list of free
motion styles I'd like to do. Top of the list is McTavishing, and
bigger wonky feathers with echos. I'd also like to practice with
different threads.I'm lining up practice pieces to do. In addition
to making some plain fabric layered blocks, I started a free motion
piece in January that has various sections for using different
techniques and I didn't finish it. So, that will be one of the
first things...
Free Motion Challenge - The final day
It's my final day of the Free motion challenge. I can honestly say,
that I'm a far better machine quilter for doing the challenge. Many
thanks to Joanne and Wendy for hosting this challenge. The
challenge is over, but the machine quilting is not. I have a few
practices pieces to finish up, then bind. I'll show you them when
I'm done. Next I need to sew some things so that I can machine
quilt them...Anyway, I couldn't wait to try my variegated Aurafil
threads that I came home with on Friday. So since this is the last
day of my Free Motion challenge, I thought I'd try out my new
threads. I did learn a bit while testing them out.
Free Motion Challenge - Day 11
It was hard to get back started on my Free Motion Challenge after a
6 break. But once I got started, I was good to go.

First thing I did was finish the clam shells and circles in my wavy
patch that I had started last week. I then moved on to do a feather
(see demonstration below), then on to some Mctavishing and a wavy
crosshatch. I really need to study the McTavishing. I like the look
of it, but I need to understand how it's done and how to get out of
a corner etc.
